Reflexology applies gentle pressure to specific points on the feet, hands and ears to improve circulation, reduce stress and promote healing. Its roots go back more than 5,000 years to Ancient Egypt.
A 2008 systematic review in the Journal of Advanced Nursing examined reflexology’s effects. Studies suggest it may help with stress, pain (including migraines and lower back pain), circulation, relaxation, sleep, nausea and vital signs.
Reflexology may not be suitable with skin conditions of the feet or hands, fever, early pregnancy or certain medical conditions — always consult a qualified reflexologist first.
